A bed of discolored
spices that deceit and hatred nurtured,
If you
remove the handcuffs that have no key,
You’ll hold
your breath and head to a world within the tablet of a crucifix,*
Freedom, for
freedom
Anyone is
bound by the word
The society
lets us be out of order
Freedom, for
freedom
All the
people are tied up in this world
There is
neither the hatred nor the sorrow there
Clean eyes
that don’t notice the defiled insects caught in the web,
If you drag
them along, clingy and reliant,
You’ll
enter into a world of depravity and pleasure,
Freedom, for
freedom
Anyone is
bound by the word
The society
lets us be out of order
Freedom, for
freedom
All the
people are tied up in this world
There is
neither the hatred nor the sorrow there
Close your eyes
dissolve into a dream,
In front of
you, even if just a little, just one,
Can you see
a landscape you can believe in?
Open your
eyes, if you can fly now,
The
continuation of the unfinished letter is**
“Let’s
choose freedom!”
Freedom, for
freedom
Anyone is
bound by the word
The society
lets us be out of order
Freedom, for
freedom
All the
people are tied up in this world
There is
neither the hatred nor the sorrow there
* The
phrase used here makes reference to tablets with Christian imagery that Edo
period authorities used to force suspected Christians to trample on as a means
of determining their loyalty. Thus, I
think the meaning can be interpreted as “the world you’ll head to is one that tests
allegiances and polices people’s thoughts” or something to that effect.
** Although
「遺書」 (=
will) is written in the lyrics, Juri sings「手紙」 (= letter) in the song.
